American Samoa is seeking to expand and diversify to lessen its traditional reliance on the fishing industry. The dramatically beautiful Samoan islands-Tutuila, Aunu'u, Olosega, Ta'u, and Ofu-are great for ecotourism and scuba diving. Tutuila is already a common stop for cruise lines, and we would like to attract even more ships. The local telecommunications technology sector is also beginning to grow, thanks to strong satellite links to Hawai'i and the mainland that would be attractive for increased electronic commerce and electronic communication based businesses. In addition, the island is working toward the development of a regional health care center for x-ray and other diagnostic care services. Opportunities also exist for expanded specialty agriculture, hydroponics, aquaculture and fisheries development.
